- Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung "Innovation Pool Is the Right Way"
In order to introduce medical-technological innovations sooner into patient care, new approaches must be taken. These include the introduction of an "innovation pool", intelligent care contracts with the health insurance funds as well as quality as a feature determining the reimbursement of services, said the experts at the conference "Umdenken: Neue Techniken − neue Erlöse im Krankenhaus" ("Rethinking Innovations: New Technologies − New Hospital Revenues") in Wiesbaden.

"The approach of forming a separate 'innovation pool' next to the 'health pool' seems to be the right way in my opinion," said Dr. Tobias Schilling of Hannover Medical School (Medizinische Hochschule Hannover). The approach presented by Thom Rasche of Earlybird was also discussed: It provides for certain innovations to be paid for privately. Mr. Rasche also called on the health insurance funds, saying: "The funds must in future set themselves apart from their competitors by shaping innovations and offering these to the insured."
